One of the leading causes behind the recent increase in international students across Malaysia is the low cost of living and studying.

Compared to other countries, Malaysia is quite affordable. In fact, Kuala Lumpur is the second most affordable city for students, as per QS Best Student Cities 2018. The reason behind this low cost is cheaper local currency compared to countries like the UK, Canada, The US and Singapore.

In short, Malaysia helps you to perfectly balance between unmatched affordability and uncompromised quality. You can easily achieve world-class education and live comfortably without hitting the hefty price tag.

Visa process and requirement

To study in Malaysia, international students are required to apply for a student pass. This pass acts as a Visa and can be applied digitally before arrival in the country. But, in most cases, it is the institution that applies for this pass once you accept the offer placed by the institute.

For the application of a student pass, you will require submitting documents like –

  • Passport copy
  • Passport size photograph
  • University offer letter (copy)
  • Academic transcripts and certificates (copy)
  • Medical examination report before arrival
  • Insurance proof
  • Evidence of sufficient funds

Since the student pass expires within a year, you will require reapplying for it if your course duration is longer than 12 months.

Accommodation

For international students, there are various options available in terms of accommodation. You can either choose to live on-campus at residence halls and student hostels or off-campus at managed apartments, studio flats, and agency-rented housing.

When it comes to rental, the cost may vary significantly due to a variety of factors, including the location and amenities offered.

While renting a property through an agency, it is always recommended to shop around so you can weigh your options. As a student, you may also receive special discounts or offers, don’t shy away from asking the agents about the same!
